The pioneering Lifewall innovation from Ceracasa is a planted facade which was designed to help improve air quality and wellbeing within urban spaces. The Lifewall facade features a vegetation based surface which was developed by architect Emilio Llobat of Maqla Architects and Azahar Energy in collaboration with Ceracasa tiles.
Lifewall consists of one square metre panels which enable vegetation to be placed on the exterior of a building. The plants on the surface of the tile are watered by a drip in order to optimise water use. Lifewall’s versatile panels can be placed wherever the architect or designer requires, allowing either expansive or intermittent surface configurations to be created.
The facades are created using Ceracasa’s award winning BIONICTILE innovation combined with a structural system which controls the drip and germination. The BIONICTILE is a porcelain tile from Ceracasa which destroys nitrous oxides in the air and converts them into a fertiliser that can be used to help grow the plants. Ideally suited to urban spaces, the BIONICTILE is particularly effective within busy cities where pollution can lead to a build up of nitrous oxides.
Tests conducted by the Polytechnic University of Valencia show that BIONICTILE ceramics are able to decompose 25.09 micrograms of nitrous oxide per m2 per hour.
