LDA Design is behind public realm improvements
FaulknerBrowns and LDA Design have won planning for a £53m sports centre plus public realm at Portsmouth University.
The city’s council approved plans for the pavilion-like building which features a largely glazed ground floor allowing pool users a view of the surrounding park.
The project will also see the surrounding area improved, with new pedestrian paths, a plaza and an urban orchard to be added. The public realm scheme was drawn up by landscape architect LDA Design.
Neil Mattinson, senior director at LDA Design, said: “Our vision for this new temple to health and wellbeing is to create welcoming, active, much-loved and richly planted shared spaces which benefit local people, university staff and students alike.”
The building is hoping to become the UK’s first Breeam Outstanding sports facility.
