BDP and NBBJ also on team for physics lab project
Jestico & Whiles, BDP and NBBJ have won a scheme to carry out work on a new physics laboratory planned by Cambridge University.
The £8.5m deal was landed by a team led by Bougues UK. It is for preconstruction work on the laboratory and a neighbouring shared facilities hub which will be built on the university’s West Cambridge campus.
Called Cavendish III, the 344,500sq ft laboratory has been designed by Jestico & Whiles and will house a range of labs and offices as well as a basement area that will feature specialist acoustic and vibration treatments to achieve the criteria necessary for operating equipment highly sensitive to vibration. Technical architect is Ch2m.
The hub, which runs across 54,000 sq ft, will include meeting, study and library spaces.
Construction work on both buildings is due to start in early 2019 and wrap up at the end of 2021.
Bouygues UK, which earlier this month said it had slumped to a near £79m pre-tax loss last year, is currently working on a new home elsewhere in the city for Cambridge Assessment, the university’s international exams group.
