Work involves transforming former industrial site along banks of River Wear

Designs for a major £450m regeneration of a former industrial area of Sunderland have been unveiled by a team consisting of architects Faulkner Browns, Proctor & Matthews, MawsonKerr and landscape architect Camlins.

The masterplan for the new city centre district spans both sides of the River Wear.

The 33.2ha site, which includes two new bridges crossing the river, is envisaged to provide 1,000 homes across five new neighbourhoods, one million sq ft of office space in a new central business district, a new council headquarters building, hotel and a 450-seat auditorium.
