Boxpark behind Sussex scheme
Chalk Architecture has won planning for Boxpark’s first venture to be built outside London.
It is set to open on the Sussex coast after the plans were approved by Adur district council.
Drawn up by the Brighton practice, the scheme will see a rundown toilet block at Shoreham-by-Sea turned into a split-level café and restaurant.
It will include an outdoor seating area and roof terrace while the public toilets will be revamped.
The project will be known as the Shoreham Beachbox rather than being branded a Boxpark.
Adur council signed a development agreement with Boxpark in 2017.
Boxpark currently operates three sites in London – Croydon, Wembley and Shoreditch. Chalk began work on plans for a Boxpark project on Brighton seafront last year but construction has yet to start.
