Donald Insall Associates’ hotel plans

Donald Insall Associates has won planning permission for a 162-room hotel in the heart of Chester.

Its proposals for 1-13 Frodsham Street will replace a two storey development of 1980s shop units with a four-storey scheme with roughly 700sq m of ground-floor retail space and a rooftop restaurant with a balcony looking out towards the city’s cathedral.

Donald Insall Associates chairman Tony Barton said the proposals had been created in close collaboration with Historic England and local authority Cheshire West and Chester Council.

“We carefully designed a relatively large hotel in a sensitive historic setting which will give a significant economic boost to Chester,” he said.

“Our approach has been to reflect and echo the context of Chester’s unique streetscape in a contemporary form using traditional materials to add a sense of place to an important city centre site that requires regeneration.”

The proposals were drawn up for investment manager Cervidae and development manager AXIS-RE.
