$1bn mixed-use project latest scheme to revive downtown LA
Frank Gehry has revealed final images of a $1bn block of flats and leisure facilities planned for a site opposite his Walt Disney Concert Hall in the centre of Los Angeles.
It is the latest piece in the redevelopment of the Bunker Hill area of downtown LA. Diller, Scofidio & Renfro’s Broad art gallery is on the same strip.
The scheme includes a cinema, a 20-storey, 314-room Equinox Hotel and a 39-storey tower containing 436 flats, as well as restaurants and retail outlets spread among a series of landscaped open terraces.
Work on site is due to start in the autumn and complete in 2021.
Aecom has been appointed by real estate giant Related as construction manager for the 209,000sq ft Grand, the third part of the public-private partnership to revamp Bunker Hill, LA’s cultural and civic core.
To date, Related has invested $240m (£172m) in the Grand Avenue Project with completed phases including Grand Park, new luxury residential building The Emerson designed by Arquitectonica, and The Broad.
In 2016, the firm agreed to a joint venture partnership with Chinese investor CCCG Overseas Real Estate Pte. Ltd. (CORE), a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Group Ltd to deliver the third phase in the development.
