Mixed-use scheme would be latest addition to growing cluster of tall buildings in the city’s west end
Glenn Howells has submitted plans to add a 45-storey hexagonal tower to an emerging cluster of tall buildings in central Leeds.
The Wellington Square development would contain 464 build to rent apartments in the tower and more than 40,000sq m of office space in two neighbouring 14 and 15-storey blocks.
The plans, designed for McLaren Group and lodged with the city council yesterday, would be located on the western side of the city centre close to where the Leeds Inner Ring Road crosses the River Aire.
Other nearby schemes include the consented former International Pool Site, a £270m scheme designed by DLA Architecture for Marrico Asset Management and Helios Real Estate which consists of four blocks up to 33 storeys.
DLA has designed a further three towers up to 42 storeys in height for student accommodation developer Urbanite Living on the nearby former Yorkshire Post site.
Also on the project team for the McLaren scheme is planning consultant ID Planning, structural and civil engineer Meinhardt, landscape architect Reform, MEP engineer Atelier 10, acoustic and fire engineer Cundall and transport consultant Fore Consulting.
It will include a huge shared basement spanning all three buildings housing 83 car parking spaces and 464 cycle spaces.
