Inflation and age of building send costs on Purcell’s Manchester Town Hall revamp up by £70m

Council admits Lendlease job might not now be finished until summer 2026 – two years late

Purcell’s restoration of Manchester’s grade I-listed town hall is facing a £67m cost increase because of construction inflation, delays caused by covid and other “unpredictable factors”.

Developer Lendlease is set to ask Manchester City Council for extra £29m interim funding for its £305m restoration of the city’s grade-I listed town hall because of rising costs on the job, following a progress update issued by the council.
