Barnet developments will deliver 43 new affordable homes on separate sites
Architecture practice RCKa has been granted planning permission for two affordable housing developments on infill sites in Barnet, north London.
Council-owned housing provider Barnet Homes commissioned the firm to look at the intensification of the borough’s existing suburban housing estates, resulting in the proposals for the Broadfields Estate in Edgware and Coppetts Road in Muswell Hill.
RCKa’s proposals for Broadfields will deliver 28 new homes on a thin strip of land described as “a jumble of under-used garages and stores”, and which is surrounded by inter-war and post-war homes.
The new housing – a mix of one- and two-bedroomed apartments – will be delivered in two irregularly-shaped five-sided blocks at the south-eastern edge of the site, freeing up the remainder of the plot to be cleared and replaced with new public open space.
The Coppetts Road scheme will deliver 15 new affordable homes on an under-used garage site and retain existing mature trees in a new central park at the heart of the site, which is next to the Martins Walk Estate
New housing will be delivered in two blocks: one four-storey building containing apartments and maisonettes and another with three-storey terraced homes.
