Leach Rhodes Walker working on masterplan
Oldham council has unveiled plans to revamp part of the town.
Manchester firm Leach Rhodes Walker has designed a new masterplan for the site covering five sites – Tommyfield Market (pictured), the Civic Centre, Oldham Police Station, the former Oldham Sports Centre and Oldham Magistrates Court and the current Oldham Coliseum Theatre – owned by the council.
The proposals, include a new market on the existing Tommyfield Market site and a 600-capacity car park, a new civic hub to host a multi-agency public sector centre and commercial office space, as well as potentially a new hotel and homes.
The council is hunting for a joint venture partner on the scheme and will launch a competition this autumn to find a preferred partner, with a winner chosen next summer.
The development is expected to start in spring 2019 and take between 10 and 15 years to complete.
