The Prince of Wales has been given approval to turn the Royal family’s 1960s holiday home on the Isles of Scilly into a chocolate box cottage.

It was dubbed a “carbuncle” and a “pastiche” by the only councillor to vote against it.

Tamarisk is a 147sq m dormer bungalow of undistinguished appearance in the historic Garrison area of St Mary’s, the biggest of the islands off Cornwall.

Tamarisk was reportedly used by Prince Charles, Diana and their children for holidays years ago but has more recently been let out to members of the wider royal household.
