New residential quarter to be erected on site of former Huntley & Palmers biscuit factory
Reading council has given the go-ahead to PRP’s designs for a new residential quarter on the site of the former Huntley & Palmers biscuit factory.
The scheme along the banks of the River Kennet for housing association L&Q will see 765 new homes, of which 157 will be “affordable”, two new public squares, a new linear park, as well as cafés, a restaurant, retail and some flexible employment space for local workers.
PRP said the plans for the project known as Kenavon Drive referenced the site’s Victorian heritage and would use traditional brick techniques.
Craig Sheach, director at PRP, said: “When delivered, the scheme will enhance the eastern quarter of Reading and provide residents and locals with a well-connected, walkable neighbourhood and place to enjoy a leisurely moment by the water - something that doesn’t happen currently at this part of the river.”
