Architect to create offices, flats and retail in existing and new buildings
Stanton Williams has won planning for a mixed-use scheme in Covent Garden.
The project on Shorts Gardens will provide new and refurbished office space with a restaurant and bar in a large unused basement.
The scheme also proposes four new flats in an existing adjoining warehouse building on Betterton Street with a new rooftop extension.
Brick arches on the ground floor elevation along Shorts Gardens will be opened up to enliven the street by providing interaction between the interiors and the public realm.
A new curved bronzed metal and glass two-storey extension will provide new office accommodation with external terraces.
The scheme is a joint venture between Span Group Ltd and Structadene.
Patrick Richard, director of Stanton Williams, said: “The development at Shorts Gardens aims to offer a creative and exciting opportunity to provide a rich sequence of good quality mixed-use spaces while also retaining and enhancing the unique character and history and the existing buildings within the historic Covent Garden area.”
