Tower Hamlets Council has refused planning permission for more than 800 homes in east London designed by Terry Farrell & Partners.

The development at Limeharbour, just south of Canary Wharf, also included 171 affordable units, a 123-bedroom hotel and 2,020sq m of commercial space.

In its decision the council said it refused the scheme because of its “excessive height, scale and mass, together with its poor quality design”.

Planners at the council said the scheme did not contain enough affordable housing and that it would appear out of character with the surrounding area and existing urban form. The council also criticised the lack of a section 106 agreement.

The scheme was due to be developed by ZBV Skylines, the subsidiary of specialist brownfield regeneration expert Zog Group.
