Building will replace facilities currently housed in nearby Pepys Library
Work has started on Niall McLaughlin Architects’ new library at Magdalene College in Cambridge.
The three-storey building is located on the edge of Fellows Garden, next to the grade I-listed Pepys Library.
The new library will replace existing facilities currently housed within the Pepys building, which in time will itself be refurbished via a separate project.
The ground floor of the new library will house a reception area and an archive centre, while the first and second floors will contain reading rooms and book-lined passageways, with part of the third floor encompassing a main reading room.
The building’s exterior will have gabled roofs, bay windows and chimneys to reflect the architecture of the surrounding college premises.
