How much should you be earning? Check our tables against region and seniority
Architects’ salaries have risen by an average of 3% in the last year, according to a survey of pay in the construction industry.
It showed that the average salary at partner/director level is £59,896 - which rises to £86,000 in London - while associates earn £47,333.
A newly qualified architect in London earns £38,000. That falls to about £29,000 in Northern Ireland and Wales.
The annual survey, carried out by Hays for BD’s sister magazine Building, shows architects’ salaries are rising significantly more than the 1.9% average rise in wages found across the whole economy – and at a faster pace than the current 2% rate of inflation.
The data – obtained through an employer and employee survey across 34 construction industry roles – suggests a remarkable degree of consistency across disciplines and regions. Where previous years have seen double-digit salary rises in some disciplines while others fell, this year there are very few roles or regions in which staff have experienced anything other than steady rises of between 1% and 4%.
