Sustainable project seeks to enhance historic square
Paul Davis & Partners has completed a new £5.5 million key-worker housing scheme in Pimlico, central London.
One Church Square provides 39 units within a five-storey block adjacent to historic grade I-listed St James-the-Less church. The 2,400sq m development contains 31 key-worker flats with the remaining eight available for market rent.
Located within a conservation area, the new building employs design and materials sensitive to its historic location and also seeks to rejuvenate the underused square on which it is located. A roof terrace and central glass-covered courtyard attempt to integrate the project into its surrounding social context.
The new project incorporates a number of passive measures to achieve Code Level 4 for Sustainable Homes. These include solar shading fins, photovoltaic roof panels, mechanical ventilation with a heat recovery system and a highly insulated and airtight building envelope.
