Earlier this year, BD published the results from our first architecture employment survey.

Launched in response to concerns that the government’s official employment figures were not painting an accurate picture of the state of the profession, the results of the survey revealed that one fifth of architects were unemployed with only a fraction claiming job seekers allowance. Over half of those with part I and Part II qualifications were unemployed.

But our survey wasn’t just about numbers. We also asked participants to share their personal stories, good and bad.

Now we are publishing a selection of those stories for the first time in a new downloadable book A Profession in Crisis? Tales from Architecture’s Frontline.

All proceeds from the book will be donated to the Architects Benevolent Society who support architects going through challenging periods in their careers and personal lives.
